YOGA: a physical, mental & spiritual practice for better living
Yoga is an ancient Indian art which means ‘unity’ or ‘oneness’. The term Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means ‘to join’. In spiritual terms, Yoga can be described as the union of the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness.
The practice of Yoga, which involves - pranayama (controlled breathing), asana (prescribed body positions) shatkarma (purification practices) and meditation, helps to balance and harmonize the individual’s body, mind and emotions. Yoga brings different bodily functions to work in perfect coordination for the total body health and positive state of mind, a state of deep spiritual insight and tranquility. The ultimate goal is to strike a balance between mind and body and attain self-enlightenment.

BHARATANATYAM: a South Indian Classical Dance
Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest and most advanced and evolved dance form of India. It is considered to be a fire dance because the dancer resembles the movement of a dancing flame.
The name Bharatanatyam is a simple derivation from the three most important aspects of dance (in Sanskrit). These are: Bha from Bhava meaning emotion, Ra from Raaga meaning music/melody, Ta from Taala meaning rhythm and Natyam meaning dance. Thus Bharatanatyam is the dance that encompasses music, rhythm and emotion.
The movements of this dance, forms geometrical patterns using the whole body. It requires hand-eye-leg coordination and control over the whole body including facial muscles. It involves rhythmic foot work, vigorous movement of the arms, squatting, jumping, stretching etc, which makes it extremely dynamic and powerful. In contrast it also involves subtle expressions and fluid movement of the body which makes it a very graceful dance form.
